Professor Paulo Cunha Museum Room – Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon
Opened in 2012 on the second floor of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, next to the Professor Marcello Caetano Museum Room, the Professor Paulo Cunha Museum Room preserves the memory of Paulo Cunha (1908-1986), jurist, lawyer, orator and public figure, who was a full professor at the faculty, vice-rector of the University of Lisbon and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Like its neighbour, it arose from a private initiative, in this case by his family. The space, designed by the architects Saldanha da Gama and Francisco Serras, combines traditional elements with new technologies: in recesses and display cases, objects are shown either suspended or in conventional displays, in an interplay of vertical and horizontal planes at different depths. On show is part of the professor's personal estate, with books, manuscripts, periodicals, medals and insignia, academic dress, caricatures, photographic portraits and an oil portrait by the painter Henrique Medina. Particularly striking are the autographs of figures such as Hirohito, Reza Pahlavi, Winston Churchill, Arthur Rubinstein, Maria Callas and Hans Kelsen, alongside originals by Portuguese personalities such as Humberto Delgado, Azeredo Perdigão and Vitorino Nemésio, as well as a concert violin, among other personal objects. Visits are possible only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in two time slots.
