Museum Room of the Institute of Social and Political Sciences – University of Lisbon
On the Alto da Ajuda university campus, the Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lisbon keeps a museum room devoted to its own history, set up in 2013. It displays some two hundred inventoried items, including objects of many kinds, documents and printed material, that trace the school's path since the days of the Escola Superior Colonial and the Instituto Superior de Estudos Ultramarinos. Highlights include the students' uniform from those schools, the professors' academic dress, an oil portrait of Francisco Craveiro Lopes painted by Eduardo Malta in 1954, surveying instruments, an anthropometry case and typewriters with Arabic and Cyrillic keyboards. The collection is completed by diplomas, a reel recording the 'Colóquio Pedagógico', the first minute book of the School Council, covering the years 1906 to 1910, reports on the teaching of various courses, correspondence, photographs and press cuttings. It is a small university museum that allows visitors to follow, through objects of everyday school life, more than a century of teaching in the social and political sciences in Lisbon. Access to the room is by prior appointment only.
