Hemeroteca Municipal de Lisboa (Lisbon Municipal Newspaper Library)
The Hemeroteca Municipal de Lisboa belongs to the Lisbon Libraries Network (BLX) and keeps the periodical press of the city and the country. Installed since 2015 on Rua Lúcio de Azevedo, in São Domingos de Benfica, as the continuation of an older service of the Central Municipal Library, it gives access to more than 12,000 newspaper and magazine titles. Depending on the title, consultation is either immediate, when the documents are listed in the catalogue with the location Hemeroteca, or restricted, when they are in the general store, in which case a prior request is required, with an average response time of 72 hours. Requested documents remain available for consultation for eight days. The Hemeroteca also offers a reference service, photocopying and digitisation, and maintains the Hemeroteca Digital, with publications available online. It is above all a space for reading and research, although the BLX also announces occasional events. The hours published by the BLX are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10:00 to 18:00, and Wednesday 14:00 to 18:00, closed at weekends; earlier versions of the timetable differ, so it is advisable to check before going.
