Sporting Museum – José Alvalade Stadium

Housed on the first floor of the José Alvalade Stadium, with its entrance through the VIP Hall, the Sporting Museum was inaugurated in August 2004 by António Dias da Cunha, then president of Sporting Clube de Portugal, and by the Mayor of Lisbon. Devoted to preserving, studying and sharing the history and heritage of the club, it covers about a thousand square metres and holds more than two thousand photographs and some five thousand trophies, also serving as the trophy room, with the European titles at its centre. Among the best-known pieces are a 1902 medal from Sport Clube de Belas bearing the original designs of the Sporting badge, Joaquim Agostinho's bicycle, António Livramento's hockey stick, the shirt in which Carlos Lopes won Olympic gold and the ball from the 5-0 win over Manchester United on 18 March 1964; a film and a set of photographs recall the famous Five Violins, and the visit ends in a cinema room modelled on the stadium stands. The museum belongs to the Portuguese Museum Network, has a documentation centre and an education service, and can be visited on its own or together with the Stadium Tour, the guided tour of the stadium. Opening times may change on match or event days.
