Kees Eijrond Foundation – Verride Palace
The Kees Eijrond Foundation was set up in 1991 in Utrecht, in the Netherlands, to support artistic creation and cultural development, and in 2022 opened a permanent branch in Lisbon, where its programme is now concentrated. It is based in the Verride Palace, an 18th-century building on the Santa Catarina hill restored by the founder and home to his hotel. Kees Eijrond, born in Amsterdam and trained as an agricultural engineer, ran Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's dance company Rosas for some thirty years, was a founding member and director of P.A.R.T.S. and co-founder of the Ictus ensemble, and settled in Lisbon in 2018. The foundation has no gallery with regular opening hours: it organises temporary exhibitions, often lasting only a few days, literary encounters, talks, workshops and the Festa do Pensamento (FesThink), as well as artist residencies at Casa Mísia, and supports projects in theatre, dance, literature, music, visual arts, film and heritage. Its spaces in the palace and in neighbouring buildings may also be lent to non-profit organisations promoting art, education and social development. It can only be visited during the events announced in its programme, held in the palace, in nearby spaces on Rua de Santa Catarina or elsewhere.
