Armed Forces Movement Command Post Museum – Pontinha Barracks (Odivelas)
In Pontinha, in the municipality of Odivelas, just beyond Lisbon's northern boundary, the barracks of Engineering Regiment no. 1 hosted, on 24, 25 and 26 April 1974, the officers who commanded all the operations of the 25 April Revolution. The Armed Forces Movement Command Post Museum was opened by Odivelas Council, in collaboration with the regiment, on 24 April 2001, and the building has been classified as a National Monument since 2015. After a year closed for refurbishment, carried out jointly with the Army, it reopened on 25 April 2025 with a new layout: photographs by Eduardo Gageiro, Alfredo Cunha and the brothers Álvaro and José Tavares, a chronology from 1926 to 2024, a room that follows events from the night of the 24th to the morning of the 26th, and the command post room itself, with its period furniture, telephones, radio and maps and figures of the seven officers, among them Otelo Saraiva de Carvalho. Outside, a shelter houses six military vehicles that drove through the streets on 25 April. It can only be seen on free guided visits, booked in advance; for the general public, on the third Saturday of each month.
