Panorâmico de Monsanto – former restaurant, Monsanto Forest Park
The Panorâmico de Monsanto is a municipal building at Alto da Serafina, in Monsanto Forest Park, commissioned by Lisbon City Council in 1967. It operated as a restaurant until 2001, when it closed, and was then abandoned, although many Lisbon residents continued to visit it as a viewpoint over the city and the Tagus. At the end of August 2017 the council completed works to remove degraded material, clean the site and install railings so that it could be entered safely, and since September 2017 the building has been used as a viewpoint, with opening and closing times and free entry. The park, of about a thousand hectares, is the city's great green space. The council has a project to rehabilitate the building to house several uses, so access may change. The current timetable could not be confirmed from an official source: the 2017 announcements gave opening from 09:00 to 19:00 in summer and from 09:00 to 18:00 from October to March, but there are recent reports of earlier closing. It is advisable to check with the council before going.
