MUP/PSP – Police Museum

In Chiado, the MUP – Police Museum presents the heritage and memory of the Public Security Police in the former Lisbon Civil Government building on Rua Capelo. Inaugurated on 13 July 2023, it gives a public setting to the study, organisation and preservation of the institution’s historical collections. The project brings together the PSP and NOVA University Lisbon’s Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, connecting historical research with public interpretation. The exhibition The Public Security Police in History follows the institution from 1867 to the present through its material heritage and the people who shaped it. The Lisbon PSP mutual association is a museum partner and links the project with the restoration of its old barber’s shop. The building belongs to the former São Francisco convent complex and stands beside the National Museum of Contemporary Art. Admission is free.
