At Campo de Santa Clara, the garden associated with Botto Machado offers a view over the Tagus, from Santa Apolónia towards the opposite bank. Its elevated position makes it a pause between the National Pantheon, São Vicente de Fora and Alfama’s streets. The landscape combines the waterfront with the scale of the neighbourhood without requiring a climb up a tower or admission to a monument. The surrounding area becomes busier on Tuesdays and Saturdays, when Campo de Santa Clara hosts the Feira da Ladra flea market, held here since the nineteenth century. The garden and viewpoint form a separate stop from a visit to the Pantheon.
