At Largo das Necessidades, the outdoor space beside the palace and church opens towards the Alcântara valley and the Tagus. A garden and fountain frame a stop where the riverside landscape meets the history of the Necessidades complex. Its elevated position reveals the city descending towards the river and the presence of the 25 de Abril Bridge nearby. This viewpoint is the public square, separate from Tapada das Necessidades, which has its own entrances and access arrangements. It can be included in a walk through the neighbourhood, Praça da Armada or towards Alcântara.
