CAMB – Manuel de Brito Art Centre
On Campo Grande, in Alvalade, the CAMB – Manuel de Brito Art Centre shows the collection assembled by the collector and gallerist Manuel de Brito, who in 1964 founded Galeria 111, one of Lisbon's leading houses for modern and contemporary Portuguese art. The centre was created in 2006, a year after the founder's death, and for several years was housed in the Palácio Anjos in Algés, in the municipality of Oeiras. In January 2023 it opened in the Campo Grande space, the former home of Galeria 111, as a non-commercial venue devoted to temporary exhibitions drawn from the collection; the first were dedicated to the centenary of Mário-Henrique Leiria and to Ruy Leitão, and in 2024 the show marking the gallery's 60th anniversary brought together more than two hundred works by almost all the artists who had exhibited there. Júlio Pomar, who showed at Galeria 111 for almost half a century, is the most widely represented artist in the collection, and the centenary of his birth was marked between January and June 2026 with a selection of works from 1944 to 2004. Admission is free; as the programme consists of temporary exhibitions, it is worth checking what is on before visiting.
