Casa do Comum, Bairro Alto
On Rua da Rosa, in the heart of the Bairro Alto, Casa do Comum is a project of Ler Devagar, imagined by José Pinho and inaugurated on 31 October 2023. It presents itself as a meeting point between the city and culture and occupies a three-storey building, where a performance hall, able to host cinema, performing arts, concerts and conferences, shares the space with a general bookshop, an antiquarian bookshop and a bar. By its own account, the aim is to return to the Bairro Alto its part in the city's cultural scene and to give residents back a place that combines cultural enjoyment with social life in the historic centre. It is described as a multidisciplinary venue with independent programming, open to risk but also to revisiting, which sets no hierarchy between modes of artistic expression, imagining instead coexistences, convergences and tensions, and which stays attentive to the great questions of the city and the world. It opens in the afternoon and runs late into the night, from Wednesday to Sunday, and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
