Museum of Illusions Lisbon

On Rua Ivens, in Chiado, the Museum of Illusions Lisbon opened in March 2025 and belongs to an international chain founded in Zagreb in 2015, of which it is the 59th venue. It is a private entertainment attraction rather than a collection museum: it covers about 600 square metres and presents itself as a fun, interactive and educational space that challenges perception and inspires creativity, designed for visitors of all ages. The route brings together more than twenty visual and educational exhibits, with stereograms, optical illusions and immersive rooms conceived to provoke the senses and trick the mind, and takes about 45 minutes. The best-known spaces include the Vortex Tunnel, the Infinity Room, the Colour Room and the Ames Room; visitors also look out for the 'big and small room' and the 'giant chair', popular for photographs and videos. At the entrance a colourful figure of Fernando Pessoa greets the public, and at the end of the route there is an area of brain games. The venue describes itself as accessible to older people, to visitors with pushchairs and to people with disabilities, and also welcomes school visits, group visits, corporate events and private parties. It is open every day, from mid-morning into the evening, and closes only on Christmas Day.
