MAAT
On the Tagus in Belém, the Tejo Power Station and Amanda Levete's building bring together art, architecture and technology.
Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology
MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology is an innovative space on the banks of the Tagus that reimagines the future of the cultural experience in Lisbon. Housed in an integrated campus that joins the iconic Tejo Power Station (a 1908 thermoelectric power plant turned into a museum of industrial architecture) with a contemporary building designed by the acclaimed architect Amanda Levete, MAAT offers 38,000 square metres devoted to critical thinking and international dialogue. Here, contemporary art exhibitions, reflections on architecture and questions of technology come together to explore the major trends and challenges of the present – from the energy flows that transform cities to the creative possibilities of post-humanism. With more than three million visitors in ten years and an EDP Foundation collection of 2,500 works by more than 300 artists (including Helena Almeida and Jorge Molder), MAAT has established itself as a living laboratory where art, sustainability and innovation meet, inviting you to rediscover what contemporary creativity can reveal about the world we live in.
